WHAT IS ISO 22716?
22716 is a set of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Guidelines for the cosmetics industry. Certification to ISO 22716 allows organizations to demonstrate their commitment to safeguarding quality and safety.
It covers manufacturing, storing, packaging, testing and transportation processes. It does not apply to research and development activities and the distribution of finished cosmetic products. Even though the standard focuses on product quality, it does not include the safety of the employees engaged in production or protection of the environment. The guideline has been approved and accepted by many global regulatory bodies, such as the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the International Cooperation on Cosmetics Regulation (ICCR) and the European Committee for Standardization (CEN).

OBJECTIVE
The purpose of this document is to provide an introduction to the ISO 22716:2007 standard on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for cosmetic products. It aims to promote the understanding of GMP across the entire cosmetics product supply chain as well as to discuss the legislative precursors to the development of the Standard. In addition, it provides a resource for those organizations interested in implementing the specific requirements of the standard in order to support their business at a domestic or international level within the cosmetics industry.
